In 2006, Leipzig based DJ and producer Matthias Tanzmann set up Cargo Edition to serve as an extension of the stylistic spectrum of its parent label Moon Harbour Recordings.
Five years on has seen Cargo Edition develop into an independent platform with its own unique voice and family of illustrious artists, each adding to the label's character; from the multilayered and melodic tracks of Sven Tasnadi, Markus Schatz and Juno6, to the detailed aesthetics of Michael Melchner, from the reduced dry sounds of Vera to the functional house of Ekkohaus. On top of A&R-ing Cargo Edition, Matthias Tanzmann also contributes his own original and remix work for the label.
Unsurprisingly, we are very excited to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Cargo Edition with its first label compilation. As well as the whole Cargo Edition family submitting their own exclusive tracks, new friends and members such as Livio & Roby, Ralph Sliwinski and Skipson also contribute exclusive material.
On the bonus-CD, greek-born and Berlin resident Ekkohaus reviews Cargo Edition's history with a very special DJ mix. In his own words; “I selected the right moments from the Cargo Edition discography to create a flow that allows the label's signature sound to unfold, and showcases its spectacular artists”. With the bonus mix Ekkohaus demonstrates that he's not only an outstanding producer and live act, but also a great DJ.
About Ekkohaus
Ekkohaus started his musical journey quite early, teaching himself drums, studying vibraphone and marimba, and finally getting his degree in Music and Multimedia Technology. He has been producing various forms of electronic music since the mid nineties and has been helplessly influenced by many artists and musical styles as he lived in a twirling London (2001-2008) and then moved to Berlin where he continues to live and work until now. He started releasing his music in 2005, after having been introduced to a small and talented crew of music lovers in London (in a Curtain Road basement). Since then he has worked and collaborated with quality dance music labels such as Moon Harbour, Cargo Edition, Circus Company, 2020 Vision, Morris Audio, Mule, Safari, Liebe Detail, Brut, Kolour, Tsuba, Eklo, Multi Vitamins, Fear of Flying, Huddtraxx, Suara, Serialism, etc. Ekkohaus has been performing as a live act since 2005, using a mix of hardware and software and a wide open sound palette. He has also been djing (vinyls and cd's) since 2001, after getting a residency at the legendary Hobo in Southern Greece. Since then he has performed in famous clubs like Fabric, Lokee, Egg, Cargo, djs can dance (London), Panoramabar, Watergate, Arena, Tresor (Berlin), Cocoon (Frankfurt), Space (Ibiza), Rex, Batofar, Harry Klein, Studio 80, Hive, Balsaal, Cityfox, and many other, less known but equally important parties ...
